1. Overcharged bulge

    Overcharging will cause all lithium atoms in the positive electrode material to run into the negative electrode material, causing the originally full grid of the positive electrode to deform and collapse, which is also a major reason for the reduction in the battery capacity of the lithium battery. During this process, more and more lithium ions are present in the negative electrode, and excessive accumulation causes lithium atoms to grow onto the stump and crystallize, causing the battery to swell.

    SEI film caused by over-discharge will have a protective effect on the negative electrode material, making the material structure less likely to collapse and can increase the cycle life of the electrode material. The SEI film is not static, and there will be a little change during the charge and discharge process, mainly because some organic matter will undergo reversible changes. After excessive discharge of the battery, the SEI film causes reversible ring breakage, and the SEI of the protective negative electrode material collapses after the SEI damage, thus forming a lithium battery bulge.

    If the charger used does not meet the requirements, the battery will be bulging at the least, and the safety accident will occur at the worst, or even an explosion will be possible. 

3. Production and manufacturing process issues

    The problem with the manufacturing level of lithium battery packs is that the electrode coating is uneven and the production process is relatively rough.

    These three factors lead to a violent reaction similar to a short circuit in the battery during use, which generates a large amount of heat, which leads to the decomposition and gasification of the electrolyte, and the battery becomes bulging.

    Lithium battery bulge is a precursor to major problems and is not recommended to use it again. If you continue to use it, it may be unimaginable consequences such as short circuit, heating, smoking, and burning.
